Don Pardo Doesn't Have Much Problem Keeping a Job

Pardo Those of you who are feeling like they've been at the same dead-end place of employment for what seems like forever ought to take a tip from Don Pardo, 88, who today celebrates his 62nd anniversary as a staff announcer with NBC -- where he has been employed since the age of 26. Yes, it was on this day in 1944 that Pardo was hired to work as an announcer and newscaster with the NBC Radio Network. NBC wouldn't become an actual television network for another few years. So Pardo has been there through its entire history as a TV entity.

Pardo is the only guy aside from Bob Hope ever to receive a lifetime contract from NBC. He's been the announcing voice of "Saturday Night Live" since its 1975 inception and has participated via voiceover on countless other NBC series and game shows, including the original "Jeopardy" hosted by Art Fleming in the 1960s. Hope made it to 100 years old. Pardo still has a dozen years to go and is miraculously still going strong. His single-job longevity is an astonishing achievement in a notoriously fickle industry where even 62 months (much less years) in the same post is rare.

Godspeed, Dominick George Pardo. May your voice never fade.

So, would that be "Don Pardo" as in "Don Corleone"? Perhaps that would explain his astonishing longevity in the profession. He's got dozens of hit men out there clearing away all the other wannabe announcers... ;-D

Amazing and WONDERFUL Career. I guess you could say thatr NBC "Likes Him...Really Likes Him..." and I'm glad they do! It is a comforting presence to hear his voice...!
